Got two new bluetooth toys
I recently got two new bluetooth toys. First a GPS receiver. (HOLUX GR 230). This tiny little thing is quite cool. Unfortunately the T-Mobile NaviGate software don't works with this. (NaviGate work's with nothing else than the T-Mobile GPS receiver.)
So I had to look for another navigation solution for my 6600. While the on-board navigation software (e.g. WayFinder) looks very cool it's very expensive for someone like me who need's car navigation only five times a year or so. Then I found "Falk Activepilot". Since their software is a JAVA MIDlet I like it very much. Unfortunately I'll need a firmware upgrade for my Nokia (I have the buggy 3.42.1). (Okay it run's on the old firmware if you disable the spoken instructions.) I'd like to update my phone since the day I first powered it on (I'd love to see "platformRequest" work in my MIDlets) and now I have a good reason for the inconvenient update procedure. (The next Nokia service point it 60 kilometers away … I hope Nokia will introduce user upgradeable firmware in their next generation Symbian phones. Since Siemens can do that with their SX1 I think this should not be a big problem and I would pay 10 or 20 euros per update if I could do this myself).
The second toy is a Nokia SU-2. (It's a bluetooth JPEG-picture viewer that can be attached to a tv screen.) It's a little bit outdated but it really got cheap. (I paid 21 euros at
http://www.computeruniverse.net that's amazing.)
I have some ideas for MIDlets and other software I could create using my new toys. If I only had more spare time …
