Nokia to dump Symbian?

There's an interesting article on >>MobHappy about the speculations about the future of Symbian on Nokia's Series 60 devices.

While I don't believe that Nokia will do that in the near or far future we (the J2ME developers) don't have to be afraid of those rumours. Although many midlets aren't as platform independent as they should (or could?) it's still easy to port a midlet to another mobile device.

I don't think that porting an sophisticated native Symbian application to Linux is that easy, too.

By the way when I look at the new Nokia Series 40 3rd Edition specs I get a feeling that the Nokia OS is really catching up. I'm really considering to buy a S40 3rd Edition phone the next time. The only thing that's missing from the new S40 is multitasking. Then it would be time to dump Symbian and adopt Nokia OS for the smartphones. (Just a quick thought.)
