No more virus news, please.
I just saw an
article on the German IT news site
heise.de about "redbrowser.jar".
It's a MIDlet that claims to be a browser that uses free SMS to browse the web.
While this already sounds like a bad idea it won't show you nice rendered HTML pages but it sends high prized premium SMSs.
Wow. "redbrowser.jar" is a really evil virus. Don't you think?
While you have to press many times the "Ok" button during installation of this file from a suspicious source you have to confirm every single premium SMS this little thing sends. (Not to forget: The phone will show you the destination of the SMS!).
Are users really that stupid?
I don't hope. (And I don't think they are.)
But it's a nice thing for those "Mobile Antivirus App" guys.
The only thing that really annoys me when I read those "news" is the fact that the average user will start to deny the installation of any software on the phone. If that happens it would be a very bad time for us mobile application developers.
