Minimize offline time when using MapLoader
The best way to minimize offline time when downloading / installing maps via MapLoader into smart2go aka Nokia Maps is to use a card reader.
Another way which involves a USB memory stick is this:
- Choose a suitable percentage of space used for the maps in smart2go. Maps will use that percentage when using the USB stick.
- Connect your phone in mass storage mode to the PC and copy the folder \Private\20001f63\ to an USB stick. (The folder may have a different name for you. It should contain stuff like a diskcache folder a file named ffffffff.cdt and some other files.) Please use the same directory layout.
- Now you can disconnect you phone.
- Start MapLoader and the maps will be downloaded to the USB stick.
- When finished reattach the phone in mass storage mode and copy back the \Private\20001f63\ folder.
If you already had a some maps on the phone you could use some kind of software which synchronizes the folders and doesn't copy files which are already present on the phone.
- Detach the phone and the maps are available.
That's it. Another nice thing is you can use multiple USB sticks and have different sets of maps without redownloading.
I think it's a nice solution if you don't want to buy a card reader (well they are quite cheap but anyway) and you are using a really slow internet connection.
